50/50 position that supports one hand/wrist NP and also helps support a high volume hand/wrist/shoulder surgeon.

Job Responsibilities:
Knowledge of EPIC appointment scheduling and ability to schedule, cancel, and work in patient appointments. Obtains required demographics and insurance data and enters information into EPIC. Capable of setting up accounts, adding and/or changing demographics and insurance information, understands procedures needed to ensure accuracy. Follows protocol to merge duplicates. Proficient in following provider preference scheduling protocols and office wide scheduling protocols to ensure patients are scheduled appropriately and with the proper sub-specialty. Accurately prepares add on charts. Obtains necessary notes, reports and results from referring providers.
Communicates the necessity of diagnostic testing films and reports needed for the appointment as appropriate. Possesses strong customer service skills. Ability to listen effectively to maintain patient confidence and trust. Ability to effectively communicate in both a verbal and/or written manner with patients, providers, co-workers and management.
Knowledgeable in all aspects of insurance referrals. Obtains necessary insurance authorizations from primary care offices as needed. Informs patient of authorization responsibilities as appropriate. Documents authorization information in EPIC. Accurately registers all patients; proficiently obtains and enters all demographic and billing information; properly documents notes in account. Consistently identifies when referrals are required, submits appropriate requests to the authorization team and/or notifies patients to obtain.
Knowledgeable in current billing information/plans and office billing protocols/policies. Keeps up to date information regarding participation and referral information. Routinely documents the reason for the appointment, referring MD and all necessary information requested by secretarial and patient care staff. Uses appropriate triage questions to determine appointment urgency. Consistently reminds patients to bring insurance cards, co-pays and any reports, notes or imaging scans (as required).
Effectively and consistently communicates office policies with patients: Par vs. non-par insurance and thoroughly explains options self-pay, payment due and thoroughly explains options, liability and/or school insurance and thoroughly explains options on Health Exchange, par vs. non-par and thoroughly explains options willingly. Performs other assignments and duties as requested by supervisor and does so in a complete manner. Other duties and tasks as needed and directed by Supervisor or Team Leader.

Job Standard/Operational Needs:
Responsibilities include greeting and rooming patients, reviewing Meaningful Use metrics in EPIC, taking vital signs, setting up injections, removing sutures/staples, and applying and changing dressings. Upstate Orthopedics Outreach Certified Athletic Trainer
Upstate Orthopedics is Central New York’s most comprehensive orthopedic practice located at the Upstate Bone and Joint Center in East Syracuse, NY. We see patients of all ages with musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. We offer sub-specialized orthopedic services unavailable elsewhere in Central New York. Patients come to our practice from 15 surrounding counties because of our top-rated orthopedic physicians. All of our surgeons have faculty appointments at SUNY Upstate Medical University, where they train orthopedic surgery residents and fellows. The expertise of our team is unmatched in Central New York.
Position Summary: Provide Athletic Training Services to a local high school/college in coordination with physicians at Upstate Orthopedics. Infrequently provide patient care support in a clinic setting.
Current High School Openings: Bishop Grimes and Chittenango High School.
Responsibilities:
-Availability after school hours to provide care to student athletes as schedule allows
- Provide home game coverage to assigned school.
-Travel with Varsity Football to away games as schedule allows.
-Provide care in injury prevention, evaluation and rehabilitation of injuries, first aid, and emergency care.
-Documentation of Injuries/Illness
-Assist Athletic Director as needed
-Proper Referral to overseeing Physician
-Abide by standing orders with Physician and scope of practice in NYS
Typical Work Schedule:
Full Time 40 hours/week. M-F, Saturdays as needed; 10-month or 12-month employment contracts available. Salaried positions with flexed hours to accommodate schedule.
Bishop Grimes: 25 hours/week with 15 hours/week clinic or assistance at other schools
Chittenango: 36 hours/week (optional 4 hours in the clinic or assistance at other schools to get to 40 hours)
*Until contract begins with assigned school, candidate may begin in clinic to help with various tasks including: room prep, patient intake, measuring/recording vitals, medical documentation during office visits with physician, casting/splinting, or other duties as assigned.

Upstate Orthopedics is looking for a skilled and experienced medical AR specialist who can effectively and aggressively pursue outstanding A/R and consistently generate revenue through professional billing practices and proper and ethical collection efforts.
Job Duties:
The AR specialist will generally act as an intermediary between our patients and their health insurance carrier. You must maintain a high level of professionalism and adhere to all debt collection rules and regulations. You will handle billing and collections, claim denials, claim appeals, patient accounts, and various administrative duties. All debt-related matters will be under your purview, and you will communicate regularly with insurance carriers and patients to pursue payments.
Proficiency in the following areas is preferred:
• Knowledge of insurance guidelines, payer requirements, and carrier systems.
• Knowledge of Orthopedic CPT and ICD-10 Coding, as well as modifiers and CCI edits.
• Understanding various fee schedules.
• Knowledge and understanding of the explanation of benefits (EOB).
• Effective verbal communication with insurance payers to resolve issues.
• Ability to write solid appeal letters.
