Athletic Training & Outreach
The mission of athletic training at Upstate Orthopedics is to promote access to expert healthcare for our patients and our community by placing licensed healthcare professionals specializing in injury and illness prevention, care, and management on the frontline of activity and patient need.
Athletic trainers at Upstate Orthopedics are in outreach positions at local high schools providing injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education along with emergent care on the side lines. Athletic trainers are an essential part of the sports medicine team at Upstate Orthopedics, helping student athletes stay healthy and active while collaborating with Upstate Orthopedics Sports Medicine Physicians and PAs for an optimized continuum of care. They are also employed on-site at the Upstate Bone and Joint Center, assisting our Physicians and fitting patients with casts and durable medical equipment.
Having access to a certified athletic trainer at junior high and high school athletic competitions and practices ensures that student athletes have immediate access to injury and illness assessment. They help establish emergency action plans and coordinate services for when emergencies arise. Having athletic trainers who specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses improves the overall safety of competition for individuals, groups, teams, and organizations.
