Sullivan Inducted as Fellow of the American Orthopaedic Association

Rosemont, IL, September 25, 2025 – The American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) announces Dr. Matthew Sullivan has been inducted as a Fellow of the American Orthopaedic Association at its 138th Annual Leadership Meeting on June 5 in Minneapolis, MN. Dr. Matthew Sullivan is an orthopaedic trauma surgeon with Upstate Orthopedics who specializes in the treatment of broken bones and injuries sustained in accidents, falls, sports-related incidents, or other traumatic events. He is experienced in surgical management of complex fractures, crush injuries, traumatic joint injuries, non-healing fractures, and other complicated cases involving the musculoskeletal system.
Dr. Sullivan is also SUNY Upstate’s Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program Director, responsible for the academic mission of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and overseeing the orthopaedic education of our 25 residents, and serves as the Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery at SUNY Upstate University Hospital, our regions only level one trauma center.

Inducted Fellows of the American Orthopaedic Association are nominated by their peers within the AOA for their exceptional leadership and accomplishments in the orthopaedic specialty. Membership in The American Orthopaedic Association is an earned membership that comes at the end of a stringent peer-reviewed process. Fewer than 10% of practicing orthopaedic surgeons have achieved AOA Membership.

About The American Orthopaedic Association
Founded in 1887, and the first orthopaedic association in the world, The American Orthopaedic Association is a small, select organization of elected orthopaedic leaders. The AOA is a unique organization that provides leadership skills, education, and essential tools to empower orthopaedic surgeons for leadership success across all career stages and subspecialties. Their programs are designed to provide leadership education for surgeons from residency through retirement. The AOA helps orthopaedic surgeons gain and enhance skills and concepts not taught during residency. This includes leadership development courses, content, and training for academic orthopedists, and providing thought leadership on and solutions for critical issues facing the broad orthopaedic community. Find out more at www.aoassn.org, follow them on X @aoa1887, or on LinkedIn.
