The State University of New York’s Board of Trustees have announced the newest faculty members to be named the highest designation of SUNY Distinguished Professor, and Upstate Orthopedics’ Timothy Damron, MD, now joins the ranks of this prestigious honor. Distinguished professors are an order above full professorship, and those appointed to this distinction have engaged in exceptional scholarship, elevated the standards of instruction, and through their work have made profound impacts in their field.
Dr. Timothy Damron is a Mayo Clinic fellowship-trained orthopedic oncology and joint reconstructive surgeon and is the David G. Murray Endowed Professor of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Damron is the chief of the Oncology and Joint Replacement Divisions at Upstate Medical University and is the vice chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. He is the leading orthopedist for bone cancer and complex joint replacement cases in Central New York and is frequently consulted for his remarkable surgical skills and innovative expertise in treating highly complicated conditions, including second opinions and revision surgeries.
As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Damron’s research has earned him national and international recognition for advancing patient care and improving patient outcomes, especially in respect to cancers that affect the musculoskeletal system, and he has received numerous honors for his clinical excellence and research. He has been granted visiting professorships at prestigious academic institutions including Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, and The Ohio State University, among multiple others.
