Upstate Orthopedics

Injection Therapy

At Upstate Orthopedics, our orthopedic doctors and providers use injection therapy as a highly effective, non-surgical way to manage orthopedic joint pain, which may cause limited range of motion or loss of function.

We offer a variety of injections for joint pain, including Synvisc-One®, Euflexxa®, Gel-One®, Xiaflex®, and Depo-Medrol.

Synvisc-One, Euflexxa, and Gel-One are viscosupplementation injections of hyaluronic acid, which is used to treat osteoarthritis knee pain. Each injection lubricates and cushions the knee, providing up to six months of pain relief for many patients. Viscosupplementation injections are typically given weekly for 3 or 4 weeks. Viscosupplementation is an appropriate treatment for people with knee arthritis that has failed to respond to more conservative therapy. It is useful for people who are trying to delay surgery or are not candidates for knee replacement surgery.

Xiaflex is used in the treatment of Dupuytren’s contracture. It was the first FDA-approved nonsurgical treatment for this condition. Xiaflex is injected directly into the "cord" of the affected hand to help break down the collagen and allow the finger to straighten. The day after your injection, your doctor will examine your hand to see if your condition has improved. Xiaflex is usually given once every 4 weeks and you may receive more than one injection at a time.

Depo-Medrol is an injectable solution with anti-inflammatory properties. It often used to treat patients with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. The medication can be injected directly at the source of inflammation. Depo-Medrol may be an option if oral medication does not provide enough relief.

The goal of pain management is to get your symptoms under control so that you can engage in the activities you need to function and recover, including physical therapy, rehabilitation, or exercise. Once your pain is minimized, it is easier to diagnose the underlying cause.

If other treatments are not providing enough pain relief, consider having a therapeutic injection at Upstate Orthopedics. Request an appointment online or call now: (315) 464-8600.
